I notice that everyone's gone back to normal rather quickly. Well, almost everyone. I hear people are making plans for parties already.

That's nice. For all of you, anyway.

Some of us won't be able to pretend everything's okay. And I'm not talking about people whose timelines look like they're permanently fucked up. I'm actually talking about a certain group of individuals that were unaffected, and were sent on what was supposed to be a mission to help another culture, and turned into something very different. I hope everyone was pleased with the result of that mission, because there are going to be some results of it that will never fade. They will be permanent. I've sunk to some very deep lows in my life, but this takes the fucking cake.

An eleven-year-old was forced to kill someone on that mission.

Eleven years old.

Are we all sure we want a computer making our personnel decisions for us? Because I want to make one thing crystal clear.

Fletcher goes on no missions. Period. I don't care if it's the computer, the Captain, or anyone else that thinks they have that right.

Fletcher goes nowhere, especially not without me.

If you'll excuse me, I have to figure out how he's going to deal with this now.

I hope you're all fucking happy.

I'm so glad that we've got a crew that's so capable that when a problem comes along, their first reaction is to chuck someone in a bubble and ask a million questions. This is really impressive, you know? I just can't believe the high level of efficiency present here. They've almost got my kid brother's work ethic beat.

Goddammit let me the hell out of here already, I have work I should be doing. Something that'll actually get results.

Bienvenidos to all of our poppin' fresh crew members! My name is Dr. Luis Sera and I am the Chief Science Officer here on the ship, as well as the head of the Science Department. This is the time when every department head parades themselves in front of the new people, and I do not want to be the exception.

The Science Department is the ship's research and development team, and we are always available for commission for individual projects as needed-- we take care of everything that does not fall under Medical or Engineering. We are located in the Contagion Containment Laboratory nearby the Medical Bay, and we are always looking for new projects and for new members. If you have a background in any scientific discipline, feel free to get in touch with me to schedule an interview.

I hope you all have a lovely, mostly stress-free stay aboard the ship. Please ask if you have any questions for me, about the department or otherwise. I am always happy to help.

Hey, everyone. My name is Russel Tringham, and I'm an alchemist. No, we're not casual drinkers of mercury, or trying to turn straw into gold. I change the molecular structure of things at the elemental level based upon the law of equivalent exchange.

I'm running some experiments, and I need a couple volunteers. The experiments have to do with the forces of motion and gravity themselves. I want to make clear that there is a chance that things will go wrong, so only people willing to get a little bruised in the name of science need apply.

If everything goes according to plan, it should only take a couple hours out of your day. We'll be doing this in the city, not in the Sensoriums, because I don't want any of our mental expectations to have a real effect on the experiments.

Any volunteers?

Time for that meeting, people. Let's plan on tomorrow a little after the mid-day slop. We have some new business to discuss and I'll be needing a few volunteers.

I'll see about snacks.

Hey amiga, I don't know about you but I could use a break after all the latest garbage. What do you say I take you out sometime this week?

Attention Command staff and Security.

Over these past few weeks, I've been working on repairing the Spacewalk. I mentioned this in a public post.

However, what I did not mention was that the Spacewalk connects to Hydroponics. I do not need to tell you how important that section of the ship can be for morale and scientific study, you're all intelligent men and women. My sensors indicate that there is full power and atmosphere present inside.

However, there are also multiple life signs. Animal life signs, not plant. I am not sure if they are hostile or not. I cannot tell you what they look like. Just that they are there, and probably have been since the incident that exposed the space walk, and everyone inside, to the vacuum of space.

My repairs are complete. I can fill the Spacewalk with a breathable atmosphere at any time, we will be able to retrieve and study the bodies inside, and access Hydroponics. I had to rig several force fields in order to repair the breaches, due to a lack of proper repair materials, but they will hold until we land on a planet and I find materials to process.

In short, I desire your orders on how to handle the opening of Hydroponics, and how to handle the corpses within. Roxie Schreiber has requested several cadavers to examine their 'souls'. I am willing to vaporize the rest, or bring them in for dissection at your discretion.

Attention Science Department
Your presence is required to discuss scanning the creatures inside Hydroponics before we open it up.

Hello? Russel? Ye havena met me, but I'm here with your brother, Fletcher. He's a wee bit shook up from a dream. Can ye come and see him?

If any of the young folk on this ship are feeling out of sorts and you're reading it, I'd like to offer myself to try and make you feel better. There's not much of a support structure around here, so I figured you might need it. My name is Tennessee Lee, but my friends call me Tess. I've already talked to Fletcher, if you know him, and I think I cheered him up a fair mite.

[locked to Russel]

I'm sorry about what happened back there. We're all kind of on edge right now and I bet the two of us aren't the only ones who had arguments out of the blue lately. Any chance we could make a new try at introductions? My name's Tennessee Lee, but my friends call me Tess, and I hope I can count you on that sooner or later. I'm a grasshopper. Where I'm from, that means I'm a traveler, explorer, friend to other grasshoppers, and student of the universe. I travel between different worlds, learn what I can, and then share that knowledge with anyone else willing to learn.

Fletcher's here with me. He's fallen asleep, but he seems pretty content for the moment. I'll make sure he doesn't get into any trouble until he relaxes about going back to you.

Since Ms. Takamachi did this for the magic department, I figure it would be a good idea to do it for mine as well. My name is Dr. Luis Sera and I'm the head of the science department here on the ship. If any of you need any assistance with a matter requiring research or development of something using scientific methods, we are the people to talk to.

Incidentally if any of you new folks have experience in science or research-related fields-- whether physical, biological or mechanical-- I'm interested in having you on my team. The science department will be having a meeting in the contagion lab next week for all new and present members to discuss current projects and division of labor.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I basically live in the contagion lab, so I'm easy to find.

-Dr. L. Sera
