If any of the young folk on this ship are feeling out of sorts and you're reading it, I'd like to offer myself to try and make you feel better. There's not much of a support structure around here, so I figured you might need it. My name is Tennessee Lee, but my friends call me Tess. I've already talked to Fletcher, if you know him, and I think I cheered him up a fair mite.

I'm sorry about what happened back there. We're all kind of on edge right now and I bet the two of us aren't the only ones who had arguments out of the blue lately. Any chance we could make a new try at introductions? My name's Tennessee Lee, but my friends call me Tess, and I hope I can count you on that sooner or later. I'm a grasshopper. Where I'm from, that means I'm a traveler, explorer, friend to other grasshoppers, and student of the universe. I travel between different worlds, learn what I can, and then share that knowledge with anyone else willing to learn.

Fletcher's here with me. He's fallen asleep, but he seems pretty content for the moment. I'll make sure he doesn't get into any trouble until he relaxes about going back to you.

In any normal situation, there'd be parents, teachers, friends, family... all that kind of thing to help keep people feeling okay. Here we don't have that, we only have what we put together ourselves.

Oh! Well, most people from my home plant speak like that. It's a result of different populations with different languages and origins blending together. Even if folks end up using only one language, the way they say it will change because of the others.
