I realize that there's tension and division surrounding both our recent fight against the Nightmare King and my own actions. I would like to address both.

First, I believe I owe an apology, both to Miss Schreiber and the crew as a whole. I overreacted. I acted on impulse. There's no excuse I can make for an error in judgement. The fault lies with me and me alone. However, I do wish you to know that the Federation and Starfleet both have the utmost respect for freedom and the rights of all sentient beings. We're a republic, a group of allied species who all believe very strongly in protecting those rights. The freedom of speech. The freedom to worship or not worship as a being chooses. The freedom to act in a manner one thinks correct. To quote a famous document, which has lost none of its relevancy over the centuries it's been in existence:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

That document saw the United States of America through it's several centuries of existence. It was altered from time to time, but the fundamental truths of it remained: that all men and women, regardless of creed, race or other factor, would have liberty. I acted in what I felt were the best interests of the crew, but I know now that I wronged not only Miss Schreiber, but all of you. I wronged myself. I violated the trust you placed in me when I was elected to lead this crew. I can only ask that you forgive and accept my solemn word that I will not allow it to happen again.

We will be putting forward our new constitution to a vote soon and with it, there will be a chance to elect the command staff again. I will ask that I be allowed to retain the position. However, if you feel that I am no longer to fit to serve the people of the crew in that capacity, I will gladly step aside for whoever you select to be my replacement and do my utmost to serve them, whoever they may be, to the best of my abilities.

To address the tension surrounding the defeat of the Nightmare King: we survived and we won. By the skin of our teeth, yes, but we survived and succeeded. I wish to extend my thanks to everyone in the Magical Department and all who were involved in the direct confrontation of the Nightmare King. I wish to extend my thanks to Aang as well, without whom all may have been lost to insanity and destruction. To all of you: I am immensely proud of your conduct and your abilities. Despite the horror, madness and insanity, you fought back against the darkness and you won. You overcame your fears; perhaps not without help, but there is no shame at all in accepting aid when necessary.

If we are to survive this, we must ultimately deal with each other fairly and work together. We must come past the differences that divide us, the differences that split our various realities and become something more then a group of disparate refugees, drifting on the tides of the multiverse. Whether we face the Ohm or the Daligig, whether we have been lied to or not, the challenges that lie ahead of us are ones we will not be able to overcome merely as individuals.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend to all of you the invitation to speak to me on any topic of your choosing. My door is open to all of you, always.

Now, there's giant multiverse out there. I'd say it's time we boldly go where no one has gone before.
