Hello everyone,

Welcome to all of the new arrivals - I know how disorienting it can be, but I hope you're all adjusting as well as can be expected. If you need anything, I'm sure many of the crew will be all too willing to help, seeing as how we've all been through the exact same thing.

My name is Nanoha Takamachi, and I'm the department head of the Mystical Department, a section devoted to dealing with, well, all of the magical, mystical, supernatural or paranormal things that the crew might encounter in our mission. If any of you new arrivals have any skills or experience in dealing with these kind of things, then please, let me know! The more the merrier, and we always welcome new recruits. Feel free to contact me over the omnicoms, or stop by the headquarters we have at the Jedi Temple in the City.

Unfortunately, my second piece of news is significantly more serious. Please, I need every single one of you to pay very close attention, because this is crucial to our success and our survival.

I'm afraid that you have arrived at a very unfortunate time - as you may have heard, we are currently dealing with an entity sealed within the ship: a "dark god" that we know as the Nightmare King. It's an extremely powerful supernatural being with the power to influence peoples' dreams and turn their fears and paranoia against them.

It may be currently sealed away, but its seal is weakening, and we're working hard to devise a way to fight it and deal with it once and for all once it breaks free. Until then, I need to ask every single one of you to prepare to deal with the things you fear.

We'll be able to let you know more - a battle plan, maybe - when we know how to fight it. But everyone needs to prepare: Meditation, psychic shielding, even going into the Sensoriums and confronting what you think you're afraid of. If you don't have experience in those things, just ask, and I'm sure people will be willing to help give you some pointers. Even a bit of preparation might come in handy.

I'm sorry to drop something so heavy on you all of a sudden, but it's incredibly important. The Nightmare King wants to drive us all apart and feed on our paranoia, insanity, and fear. If we work together and prepare, he doesn't stand a chance.

I'll answer any questions you all have as best as I can.

Wait, wait, wait... just how long have you guys been dealing with this thing? And why are you waiting for it to break free to stop it?!

Believe me, if it were up to us I don't think any of us would want for it to break free first.

But as it happens, it being sealed away also means that... it can't directly attack us, but we can't get to it, either. It'll only become vulnerable once it gets loose.

[The sound you've probably just heard somewhere on the ship? Is Irma facepalming.]

Greaaaaaat... and what if this doesn't work, o mighty leader? I hope you have a plan B because if you don't...!

Don't yell at her, Irma. This isn't anyone's fault, the Nightmare God has been kept away while we had to deal with other things: pirates, zombies, alien brain suckers...it hasn't been easy.

Don't blame her. She's doing everything she can, and I mean everything.

Mmmrgh... this isn't giving me any hope, Katara! I just can't put my backing into something this crazy. And believe me - I've seen crazy plans before!

Irma, nothing is set in stone. To be honest, we've needed the help of other people on the crew for awhile. They've allowed the fighting of the Nightmare King to fall on the shoulders of the Magical Department. As it is...we're still getting all the bits and pieces of what the King IS and what we can do to fight him.

Nanoha has been doing her best, and it hadn't been easy since she's head of the department. It's the roughest for her. If you can help her...she'll appreciate it.

If you have another suggestion, I'd be happy to consider it.

But as far as we can tell, trying to directly attack it right now is a waste of time and resources. We're better off preparing to deal with it as soon as it's vulnerable. If that means meeting it with high-powered magic right out of the gates, then so be it.

...Well, if we're stuck with that.

I'm Irma Lair. I'm a friend of Will Vandom's, though I'm not the one from her world. Same person, same abilities, different set of circumstances, you could say. I don't know what water magic can do, but I have that.

...that and maybe I can "persuade" people to stop acting stupid and deal with what they need to.

I appreciate the offer, though I admit that I don't know how much force will be able to help with it. Understanding might be a lot more effective... though maybe not if it goes too far.

This isn't some kind of role-playing game, is it? I can buy this being a spaceship and my world being gone, but... "dark gods"? Gods at all, even?

I am an android from the 40th century. I have fought alongside a woman who could harness plasma to make energy constructs, aliens, and elemental men, and fought against demons and magicians.

Really, being so skeptical of 'gods' when you're possibly the sole survivor of your entire universe, and are now living with other universal refugees, is rather ridiculous in retrospect.

Maybe it is, but I don't think I should believe whatever people say just because weirder things have already happened.

Is there anything people without magic powers can do to help?

There certainly is. If you're good at meditation or anything like that, it could be really useful to help teach everyone else.

I'm good at zoning out, but I doubt that's the same thing. Blanking your mind out during detention is definitely a teachable skill, though.

Even something like that could definitely be a help. So... if you wouldn't mind giving crash courses to anyone who asked?

It's a very delicate art. But I'll give it a shot.

Do you want the wards strengthened? There's thaumaturgical batteries among my possesions. I could hook them up to a hex array and reinforce whatever barriers you have on that thing.

When you have some time (and I know you don't have much), let's put our heads together to try and start drawing out plans that are as concrete as we can make them. If I can give Leon something for all of the non-magical people to focus on preparing for, or if we can start working out who in our team is going to be tackling what when the King breaks free... I think it'll give us a leg up on things.

Not exactly. I have encountered malevolent spirits before, though and I do have some experience with them.

All right - so what kind of experience do you have? What sort of things have you faced, if I can ask?

I have experiences with spirits. I was once a resident of the spirit plane, actually. I'm Dream Girl, but you can call me Nura. I am also a precog.

Have you ever encountered anything like this before?

Yes. I was...within someone's mind and a very confused woman unlocked the gates to his demons. I was beaten and temporarily lost my sight and my foresight.

Were the demons anything like the Nightmare King? Could that, I don't know, feed on someone's fears?

And can you use your precognition to maybe learn anything about what we're going to be facing? When it's going to wake up, what it's going to throw at us - that sort of thing?

They were...powerful. Coluans stuff their emotions so often, but a Brainiac does more so than normal. They attacked me and abused me, and they did indeed mock me and Querl, who they had pinned down.

But Querl regained control and defeated them...I'm so sorry that I'm bringing foreboding to the comm.
