Hey, everyone. My name is Russel Tringham, and I'm an alchemist. No, we're not casual drinkers of mercury, or trying to turn straw into gold. I change the molecular structure of things at the elemental level based upon the law of equivalent exchange.

I'm running some experiments, and I need a couple volunteers. The experiments have to do with the forces of motion and gravity themselves. I want to make clear that there is a chance that things will go wrong, so only people willing to get a little bruised in the name of science need apply.

If everything goes according to plan, it should only take a couple hours out of your day. We'll be doing this in the city, not in the Sensoriums, because I don't want any of our mental expectations to have a real effect on the experiments.

Any volunteers?

I'm not in the mood for a fight. You said you want to test gravity and motion. I've lived on Earth and in space, so I know how it affects speed.

Speed is perfect. Meet me in [area of the city still destroyed from Aang, but away from other habitated areas] right after breakfast.

Sounds interesting. Just what kind of experiment is this?

Easiest explanation is that you're going to move, and I'm going to attempt to affect the energy of your movement via a transmutation.

Well as long as it's not going to kill or seriously injure me- I volunteer. I'll probably want a longer explanation later, if that's all right.

I'll be giving one. It's pretty technical, and after all, we alchemists are a secretive bunch. So I'm not exactly going to broadcast all of it like this.

And I will do everything I can to keep injuries to a minimum. I'm actually at a greater risk of injury than any of my subjects.

Just as long as you don't get badly hurt either.

The primary risk comes from if I don't maintain the balance properly. But if my small-scale experiments remain consistent, that should not be a problem.

That's not a no.

I can't promise anything. This is all highly theoretical.

O.K., just what could happen to you then? Theoretically.

If I violate the law of Equivalent Exchange, if I try to take more than I give, then the balance comes from me.

That is so not a comforting answer.

That's my problem. I know what I'm getting myself into.

Maybe you should make sure a doctor is around. Just in case.

My brother will be there. He's good with first-aid. This isn't human transmutation, so I'm not anticipating a huge rebound.

Sounds quite interesting, I would be more than willing to participate and may be able to aid should the experiment go awry.

What is it that you specialize in?

In regards to this experiment, to be put simply I am skilled in a form of telekinesis, among other uses of my energies.

I would be rather interested in hearing more as to what you plan for your experiments and by what means you will be going about them, such things are always a curiosity of mine.

We'll talk more about that right before I get started. I'm not about to broadcast all of my research on a public channel.

You're just lucky I've had time to adjust here, because alchemy was just poppycock in my world.

Yeah, that was in some of the stuff I read from other places. Here I thought other worlds would have something of value to contribute.

I am willing to assist. I have knowledge of momentum-alteration magic, and can provide recording of tests if needed.

The recording would be perfect. But we'll have to play with your magic a bit.

Sure, I'd be interested! I can even use one of my doubles if you want something you can work to affect without worrying about injuries. (Damage to surrounding buildings could be a worry, though.)

I'm also pretty well versed in field medicine and should be able to help if anybody gets hurt.

How many doubles can you make?

The area I've got picked out is already a crater. I don't think the rubble would mind a little further damage. But despite that, I'm not anticipating any explosions.

I can fly and am a scientist myself. It seems like you have plenty of volunteers, but if you need something I'd be happy to help.

Experimenting with alchemy and motion, and because you were neck deep in petri dishes.

Also, it's my own project, not anything concerned with the Science department, such as we are.
