My name is Sherlock Holmes. I'm a consulting detective, the only one that was in existence in my world at the time of its (alleged) destruction, working most often with the Scotland Yard on the cases the police were too incompetent to solve on their own.

This post has a three-fold purpose.

1. I would like to be put in contact with whoever is responsible for criminal investigations on the ship, to possibly make arrangements for future consultations.

2. I would like to be put in contact with whoever is responsible for criminal investigations on-planet, during missions, to make similar arrangements.

3. I would like to make it known to the ship proper that I'm available for private cases. Interesting ones only please. If you're in need of assistance, contact me and we'll discuss whether or not your case has potential.

Well, Mr. Holmes, we do have a Security department that such things would fall under that you're quite free to join - though there's nothing to stop you from operating independently. I do so myself - I am Hidari Shoutarou, operating out of the Narumi Detective Agency in the City. I also work on the aforementioned Security department as well.

I prefer working independently so I can choose what cases I take one rather than having them assigned. Keeps me from having to solve the ones that are uninspired.

You're certainly within your rights to turn down a case, but I'm curious about this standard.

Why would I want to solve a case that was simple? Where's the fun in that?

It's not about fun - a detective's duty is to their clients, not their own entertainment. You take the bad with the good, the boring with the fun.

I am curious. In your opinion, what constitutes an "interesting" case?

That often depends on the circumstances, but typically one where the criminal showed some care and creativity in committing their crime so that the solution isn't immediately obvious, a crime that requires considerable logical reasoning, practical applications of my forensics knowledge, and sometimes research to solve.

Or one where the criminal involved is intelligent enough that I have to actively engage them in a battle of wits in my efforts to catch them and bring them in.

I find a lack of intellectual stimulation agonizing.

Then you are not motivated to Serve And Protect, but to solve puzzles.

Yes, and I solve them well.

My clients are rarely disappointed unless they were hoping I'd prove their innocence when they were actually culpable.

My name is Dick Grayson, though I'm known on my world as Nightwing. Costumed superhero back home. Less so here. I'm one of the heads of ship security as well as a Lieutenant Commander and head of Tactical. Mostly, that means that there are currently only two people who would outrank me on planet.

I would like to offer my services as a consultant to the ship's Security Department. While I'd prefer not to work directly under your auspices, I'm willing to undergo an interview so that you be made aware of my skillset and general character, and willing to work within your department's protocols and procedures.

If you prefer, you can think of me as independent forensics examiner, like the ones many law enforcement agencies hire on a freelance basis.

I'll have to talk to Dean Winchester (the other head of security), but I can't see where that would be a problem. We actually could have used an experienced forensics examiner a while back. Red Robin and I are well trained, but there are places where that training falls short. Batman doesn't know everything, even if he fakes it well.

An interview wouldn't go amiss, though. I have an office in the security building in the City. It should be marked on your map.

The Sherlock Holmes? The very pinnacle of detectives, able to deduce the most complex of cases with ease, the master of outstanding and brilliant reasoning, the most sublime of souls when it comes to discovering explanations and solutions of an otherwise elusive nature?

It is an honor to meet you, sir. Damian Spinelli, Jackal P.I., at your service. While I am afraid I am as new of an arrival as yourself, I am most certain that one of your deductive capabilities should find no trouble in locating the answers which you seek. My only regret is that I am not able to be of assistance in these matters at this time.

Where were all you people back home? All the ones that recognize my brilliance?

You mean that the people back there don't? Your pardon, Most Astute One, but I find that hard to believe. Why, the cases you've solved for Scotland Yard alone should have garnered you an astonishing amount of respect, let alone acknowledgement of your superior cognitive skills! Truly, it is a crime if they do not recognize what you bring to the table, as it were.

One's reputation tends to take something of a downward turn when your archenemy manages to convince the police you're responsible for the kidnapping and poisoning of children and convinces the public that you're a fraud.

Surely Moriarty's machinations can be overcome...or could have been overcome, were you not thrust into this strange and unusual circumstance.

Although, if you will forgive my boldness, here your reputation is un-besmirched and his attempts to thwart you by and large rendered moot. I am certain that you will be able to prove your brilliance here quite easily, should a case arise that requires your attention.

I'm Elisa Maza. Before I woke up here, I was a detective in the NYPD.

[And she wasn't overly impressed by the idea of a consulting detective who only took on 'interesting' cases, but they were going to have to work together. Talking to him wouldn't hurt.]

I'm part of the security department. Why don't you tell me what sort of assistance you had in mind?

I'm to understand the detectives here are possibly more competent than the ones back home, so a great deal depends on how true that is.

To provide an example of the services I rendered to the Yard back on my own world, there was a case where a series of victims had killed themselves by self-administering poison. The victims had no relationships to each other or any connections whatsoever, and were originally thought to be uncannily similar suicides until it became obvious that they were serial murders. Examining a single crime scene of one of the victims allowed me to solve the case for the police when they were unable to solve it on their own.

I would like to provide similar assistance here on the ship. When there are cases that members of the Security Department are unable to solve without aid, or that you need assistance with to solve more quickly, if you'll allow me onto your crime scenes, I can solve them for you.

Impressive. [The 'if it's true' was implied, but left unspoken for now.] So what do you get out of this deal? Would you help with any of our cases or just the 'interesting' ones?

Just the interesting ones, though if you are as competent as you seem to think, there shouldn't be many cases you need help with that aren't interesting.
