Captain,
I'm handing in my resignation as the Tactical Officer on the Macross Quarter and any associated position in Command. I believe that I am no longer suited to the position and that certain aspects of my personality are troubling enough to mandate my removal.
During the attack by Catatrophists on the ship, Daniel Jackson and I apprehended one of the terrorists and attempted to interrogate him. During the interrogation, I took some extreme measures, such as torture, that I am not proud of. I was intending to get information, which I believed might save lives aboard the ship, but it's possible there was an element of personal satisfaction as well. The terrorist died soon afterwards from a killswitch inserted somewhere into his body.
I do not believe these measures to be in line with the ethical code or mission of the official organizations of the ship. As such, I submit myself to any and all punitive action that you may deem fit. I should also mention that Daniel Jackson did not condone any of my behavior, and in fact stopped me when I became too violent.
While I understand I'm not in much of a position to make requests, I would like to ask that the nature of my crime and punishment be fairly discrete. I have a son I would like to look in the eye at the end of the day, and if he ever has to know what I've done, I'd rather he hear it from me than from the gossip mill.
I can retell the events leading up to the terrorist's death, including a message from his master, but it's possible that my memory is distorted by the extremely emotional nature of my actions. You may wish to cross-check with Dr. Jackson. Unfortunately, none of the conversation was recorded, but I assure you I'll do my best to give you an accurate version of the events.
Thank you,
Eva Salazar
