ATTN: re: Science Department

For those of you who arrived in the middle of that fun-filled little disaster we just cleaned up, I feel the need to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Luis Sera, Chief Science Officer here and the head of the Science Department. If any of you are scientifically inclined in any scientific discipline-- biology, physics, chemistry, etc,-- and if I can trust you not to blow anything up, you are welcome to speak with me if you would like a position on the staff, either in this message or in person. We are based in the Contagion Containment Laboratory down the hall from Med Bay and you will find me there almost all of the time.

[Screened to Science Staff, new, prospective and current]

Okay guys, I know as well as anyone how tempting it is to stay shut in staring at petri dishes all day long and forgetting things like eating, sleeping or basic human social interaction, but I would really like to touch base as a group for a brief meeting one of these days. We are more of a collective of mouthbreathing nerds than a true department at the moment and I, for one, would at least like to know everyone's specialties and current projects so we can perhaps be a little more useful next time a life-or-death-crisis rolls around.

And you know this ship.

If it's any incentive, I have a few projects I would be happy to spread around. I will also see about providing snacks and a nice film about mitosis for after. Let me know if you will be showing up at this potential meeting or if I have to go shut off the power to the contagion lab to get you out of your workspaces.

- L. Sera

I may be paying a visit, if there is such a meeting.

Mouthbreathing nerds?

Oh. Well, me and my brother will be there!

Can we watch Weird Science?

[personal profile] stickyboots 2010-03-18 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sah-weeeeeet!!

I'm not sure what scientists are like where you're from, but I like to think I had my share of good times when I was at Stanford or on Pandora. Field work. That kind of thing.

Either way, it's nice to see we're finally getting off our asses and getting organized. I'll be there.

[identity profile] givememysamples.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

I'll do my best. The Avatar project is on board, as well.

[identity profile] givememysamples.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
To make a long, complicated story short, we managed to combine human and Na'vi - that's an alien race - DNA to make 'avatars' so we could use them to interact with the natives of Pandora. The Na'vi. They're controlled by human operators using certain technology.

[identity profile] givememysamples.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that creepy, really. It's not like we were building bioweapons or anything. It was supposed to ease contact with the Na'vi and allow us to do more in-depth field work.

[identity profile] givememysamples.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Of course not. That'd be horrifically unethical.

Dr. Sera, I would be interested in attending this meeting. I am Spock, formerly Chief Science Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Computer science and physics are my primary specializations.

Having made the transition from an academic environment to field work myself, I will gladly assist in whatever way I am able.

This should be interesting, tee hee hee.

I will be there.

When exactly is this meeting?

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be there for a meeting when it rolls around.

Contagion lab, though? That could be interesting.

Sorry. I should introduce myself. I'm Angie Spica. I came around during the podpop before last? It's kind of easy to lose track of time here.
