That wasn't the kind of retreat you'd see out of a losing force trying to cut their losses. I didn't see how things went for the guys going after the Node, but my money's on "no."

Off the top of my head: could be they got new information, could be something happened somewhere else that was more important to them. I can think of a couple other reasons to cancel an attack in progress, but none of them make much sense for what just happened.
