I'm trapped against my will in the Medbay and it's so excruciatingly dull that the only thing I'm able to do right now to entertain myself is reflect on the fact that there are talking ponies on this ship that are capable of grasping objects when they're not in possession of opposable thumbs.

My work, usually.

Before a disruption to my life several months ago that resulted in my going into hiding, I typically spent my time solving crimes, doing my research, and irritating my flatmate.

But that last one is more of a hobby.

It isn't that the idea of it isn't fun. There'd be fun in it if it was part of something else, but there's not enough challenge in it by itself.

i think you have it backwards here? fun doesn't have to be part of work. in fact fun is best totally divorced from work and refusing to take its calls. fun's its own thing!

Something being challenging isn't the same as it being laborious.

My friend John and I once broke into a top secret military facility for a case using my brother's government ID. All it took was some pick-pocketing beforehand and the ability to lie through our teeth.

It was fun.
