It's been done this way for a thousand years. The four founders of Hogwarts wanted to teach different sets of students, and that's how the House system started. Gryffindor's where the courageous and daring students go, though they can also have hot tempers. Slytherins are cunning and ambitious, though they also have a notable dark streak to them. Ravenclaws are supposedly the sharpest minds and the most dedicated to learning, and Hufflepuffs are loyal and work hard. It's not a perfect system, but it works for us.

Of course I don't mind. I'd be interested in seeing your magic someday as well.
