Hello,

My name is Reinforce Eins, a device in the service of the Magic Department and along with my younger sister one of the ship's internal communications officers.

As most of you should be aware, despite the many similarities present between most of our worlds-of-origin, there is a large, unexplained level of variation between the personal abilities - what we of mine call magic - many of us possess, and few of us understand each others' in any useful level of detail.

This paucity of knowledge is an impediment to our efficient use in both combat and other types of operations. Command cannot be expected to develop a coherent combat doctrine or wage war effectively if it does not understand all the weapons and tactical options at its disposal. In order to remedy this dangerous state of affairs I propose an initiative to collect information on such abilities and their uses from the crew in a systematic manner and develop a detailed report to Command to aid in future doctrinal and combat planning.

This proposal is here submitted to command and the crew at large for initial comment.

In the course of my recent application to the department, I delivered a manifest of many of the spells I know. If you like, I can provide you with one as well.

I will retrieve it when I back up Magic Department records.

However, at this time I am more interested in discussing concerns and implementation than beginning.

I for one feel this is a splendid idea. Does this 'technology', as I believe is the proper term for the device we are using to communicate, interface acceptably with magic, or can it be made to do so? Perhaps a compendium which can be accessed from these devices?

I apologize in advance for a forward and personal query, and by all means ignore or rebuke it as you see fit, but may I request clarification on the statement that you are a 'device'?

Yes. Or to be more precise, where I am from, magic is simply considered a branch of technological development, not a distinct art.

I would not have mentioned it if I was unwilling to elaborate. I am a product of such technology, meant to aid my wielder in controlling their magic.

I am going to guess that you come from the same world as Vita. I had the pleasure of meeting Graf Eisen along with her. Though, given your displayed initiative and communicativeness I suspect there is not much of a comparison to be made.

She is of our lady's Cloud Knights. My purpose is not so different from Graf Eisen's, but as you say, I am originally of the Unison type and have much higher capacity for independent action.

I'm in the process of preparing a laboratory in the space kindly allowed me in the Jedi Temple. Please consider yourself invited to visit whensoever you might have the time and inclination; I'd like very much to converse further on the nature of magic and 'devices' in your world. It is in numerous respects decidedly different than both my world and even my field of study.

I'd be happy to help you set up. When are you there?

I intend to do the five-plane sealing and testing soon, after which I will inscribe the teleport circles. Help after that point would certainly be appreciated!

How would you collect this information?

Interviews, with demonstrations a possibility if clarification on verbal descriptions are necessary. While I would be happy to rigorously test the abilities of the crew and develop precise metrics for grading their effects at present I am focusing on a lower-resolution survey.

I have only been suggesting this since my campagin.

The important parts of the extent of my powers and their limits as well as complications they may cause is on record with the medical staff. I would be glad to include the basics for public viewing, and the more... sensitive information I am much less inclined to share.

How can we be sure that we shall not be judged by our abilities, or that our limitations might be used against us by other members of the ship? I know that there are those who do not trust me, solely based on my race. I am concerned that if one of them were to gain power that they might use information I share against me.

I should be more concerned about fighting the Ohm than worrying if my fellow crew mates might try to kill me due to their mistrust.

It need not be available to the public, but at some point all who intend to fully commit themselves to this fight will have to accept a degree of subordination and commensurate vulnerability to their leaders. If you make enemies of those who have a legitimate use for the information of who keep it it will of course be disadvantageous. I can do little to change that.

But I can promise I would oppose any who targeted you for your species and not your actions. And you do have the option of providing information on positive capabilities but not those vulnerabilities you feel could be easily exploited.

I can agree to this. It is a rather uncomfortable position for me, but I can recognize the importance of this. It is no less than what I would expect if it were I in power.

What about those with powers but who do not like to use them? Or other disabilities that might get in the way of combat, both physical and mental? How will those be handled?

I would encourage you to consider whether such principles serve your interests, and the greater good, in your present situation. But if you do not think you will be willing to use them under any circumstances, there is little point in providing me the information.

Disabilities unless they are of a purely magical nature fall within the purview of the medical department, which I would hope is sharing with command information on which crew are not suited for combat.

I am willing to use them when needed, but, well, when I submit the report, it'll explain why.

I also have a fear of blood, so I don't know how useful I can actually be on a battle field.
