I figured it out!
I think I got it working now!
My name is Aang. On my world, I'm called the Avatar. You may have met my girlfriend Katara, or Toph, or Zuko. They're all Benders. (Sokka isn't a Bender but he's from the same world and he's smart and really good with his boomerang!) With me, instead of just one element, I can Bend all four elements. It's really strange explaining what I am to people who don't know, because everyone on my world does, but I'm the spirit of my world. A thousand lives ago, I took a human form, and I've been reborn, life after life, into each of the Four Nations of our world each time. My job is to maintain the balance in our world, between the Four Nations, between people and nature, between mankind and the spirit world.
I'm the one that destroyed the city and hurt some of you when I was in the Avatar State (it lets me get in touch with the power and skills of my past lives and sometimes I go into it when I don't want to when I'm really upset or hurt or scared or angry), and for that, I'm really, really sorry. I understand if some of you can't forgive me for it, I know some of you were hurt pretty badly. I'll do anything I can to make amends and I'll help clean up the City. I wasn't myself, because of the Nightmare King, because of holding him back for so long. Because of a lot of things.
But that's over now. And that's what I want to talk to you all about. It's over now. You survived. We survived. The reason we did is because everyone looked out for one another, because everyone fought as hard as they could, even if, from what I'm reading, they didn't prepare as much as they should have.
Preparing, though, would not have saved you in this case. The Nightmare King was a monster, a great and powerful spirit--a thing called a "god." In the end, he overpowered even me with my fears, and I had the will of a thousand lifetimes and a magical coffiney thing holding him back.
And for that, I'm sorry, too. I wanted to give you more time, but I wasn't strong enough, and because of that, you all suffered. If anyone wants to blame anyone for anything, blame me.
Some of you are arguing about preparing, some of you are arguing over who should get the credit for defeating the Nightmare King. And I am going to cut that out right now by saying that we all should. Your fear made him stronger, and if you had each fallen, that would've made him stronger still. But you fought, you helped each other fight, you were brave--and by not giving in, by helping each other instead of giving into the horror, it made him weaker. You saved each other, and some of you even saved me. (Thanks you for that. Thank you.)
Anyway, I want to ask you all to not let him break you even when he's gone. This is his poison, this is the kind of hate he spreads, by playing on our fears and hurting us. He may be gone now, but he isn't gone entirely--he's still in our minds. He wanted to divide you all, and let you each wither away in your bad dreams, alone. We need to be stronger than that.
Normally, I don't ask requests of people, I don't believe in asking for favors when I've done something for someone else, but I'm asking one of you all now. Even if I failed in the end, I suffered to give you all a chance. I saw...things that most people couldn't see and walk away from. For that, I'm asking you to not divide yourselves over this, not to worry about the "should haves" and the "I told you so"s.
And I'm also asking you to let go of your anger at the people saying those things when the reason they're saying them is they're worried about the future and your safety. Sometimes people say the right things in really stupid ways and don't realize it makes people less likely to listen--and that's bad when what they're saying is the truth, and important. Sometimes people say the right things but say it at the worst time possible, when people are still hurt. What matters is their intent.
It's time to let the anger and fear go now, and for what I did for this crew, the one and only thing I'm going to ask of you all is that you please stop fighting. Please stop. We have to work together now. We have to do it for each other, for our worlds, and for life itself. Who's right and who's wrong and who told who what doesn't matter in the face of that.
In a little while when I'm feeling better, I want to have a meeting. I've met the Daligig and I've fought the Ohm. There are things you all need to know.
Hopefully, I'll meet you all in person soon.
--Aang (the guy that was in the coffiney thing in escherville) (and also blew up the City) (Sorry)
P.S. If that guy who shot me with his gun-thing can see this, I want you to know that I forgive you. I know you were trying to protect everyone. I'm sorry I confused you into thinking I was the bad guy and put you in that situation in the first place.

What's a Bender? And what four elements exactly? There's like 118 of them.
no subject
And there's only four elements: Earth, wind, fire, and air. Everything else is made up of those four. Like wood is fire and earth mixed together, and metal is just another form of earth.

But that said, I agreed with Sheeana and Roxie on this anyway. They didn't say it in the best way, but when I first heard from the Seer about the King and what we needed to do to fight, I DID what i could. I tried gathering them to the WITCH bus. I tried talking about it, I tried advising meditation classes. I'll admit something here: I did it partly because I was scared that the King would take you, and that thought alone was enough to keep me trying.
But Sheeana is right: people are more willing to try and fight something with fists and guns than they are mentally, and that's a problem. From all that's happened here, you can SEE that could really mess with us in the future. All it takes is another Nightmare King who knows how to manipulate the actual crew against each other, and we'll be finished. A little while ago, I saw that for myself in one of our missions. Even now, there are people on the ship who have a heavy dislike for one person or another, and those kind of fights will get bigger and bigger as people take sides.
You're the Avatar, and I believe that if anyone can bring harmony to the ship, its you. So...I will have faith in you. You have more love and understanding in you than I ever could, so I know you'll do everything in your power to help us.
No matter what happens, I'm with you.

They're right about being prepared--if I hadn't trained in Bending like I did...
But there's a time and place to say things, and there are good ways to say them and there are bad ways. When everyone is still hurting, still shaken from facing their worst fears isn't the time to say "I told you so." Even if what you're saying is right, even if you're looking out for people and that's why you're saying it. Because all the rightness in the world doesn't matter if you don't have compassion for other people.
"Pay no attention to the faults of others,
things done or left undone by others.
Consider only what by oneself is done or left undone."
And being angry because everyone has fought their best against the forces of an enemy enough to say that "we" defeated him because you're not getting all the credit is...
Blind. Sometimes problems and enemies have many arms, and sometimes each hand has to be struck down. Even if the person that goes for the head succeeds, what good is it if no one fought the hands?
It isn't people fighting with their minds or fighting with their fists that's the problem--it's that everyone is fighting with each other over how to fight. And your teacher and Roxie are just a guilty of that as anyone else.
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world. If we are conflicted, if we dwell on conflict, conflict will be our world.
...And I know you're with me, Katara. That thought was the only thing I had to hold on to for a while.
